| Tickled Pink
(Terpsichore Polyhymnia TECD074)
Tickled Pink was formed in 1989, originally as a ceilidh band. Over the
years the band's musical approach has expanded to add such styles as blues,
rap, country, etc to traditional English music. The two key players are
Mark Hutchinson on vocals and Simon Care (melodeon).
This is their second CD and features 'an eclectic mix of traditional and
contemporary song and English dance music'. What you get is typical bash
and crash folk rock, mixing traditional songs with melodeon led instrumentals.
I found some tracks more successful than others. The shanties "Let
the Bullgine Run / Johnny come down to Hilo" lead nicely into the
instrumental "Brighton Camp" and their techno version of "Soldier's
Joy" gets down to business straight away and throughout maintains
a lively pace. "Need for Speed" though seems self indulgent.
It takes over half the track to get into "Speed the Plough".
And I could have done without the six minute dirge "Davy Lowston".
